A Sample of Ministries Opportunities
CHRISTMAS TEA
The Christmas Tea is a ministry of Faith to our own ladies, but it is also an opportunity to reach out to the lost and un-churched ladies in our community. The “Tea” is usually scheduled 2 weeks before Thanksgiving in November. We invite ladies to agree to host a table. Each hostess decorates her own table and invites her own guests. We ask that each hostess invite at least 2-3 lost or un-churched ladies. Each table seats 8 ladies. There are usually between 300-350 ladies in attendance each evening of the 2 nights. The evening events include: browsing around the beautiful tables, a catered dinner, drama, special music, and a guest speaker. Our prayer is that those ladies who may never come to a church service will come to a ladies’ Christmas dinner and that the Lord will touch their hearts.
FAITH WALK
Faith Walk is a three-day weekend designed for every Christian who desires to be strengthened in their faith and brought closer to Christ in their discipleship. It expands your spiritual life, deepens your discipleship, and rekindles your gifts as a Christian leader in your church and community. As a believer on your Faith Walk weekend, you will hear Faith re-explained through talks and discussions and Grace will be re-experienced through rich worship services and communion. You will also realize the Christian Community as you share in the lives of other believers during fun-filled moments as well as serious times, small group discussions, common meals, singing, worship and communion. The Body Of Christ will be renewed as disciples support one another over the long haul, walk in the spirit of Jesus, and share the gospel of grace with others. Men’s Faith Walk and Women’s Faith Walk weekends are scheduled in every autumn and spring. You may sign up for a women’s weekend by filling out a Faith Walk registration form located in the church bookstore.
WOMEN ON MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Women on Mission are ladies of all ages that have a heart for missions. Here at Faith we have an opportunity every Tuesday to minister to others in a variety of ways.
Every Tuesday beginning at 10am there is church nursery available at no charge.
Director: Kathryn Hughes 382-3269
President: Lisa Barron 371-0376
Secretary: Jane Sargent 382-1230
Mission Action: Cheryl McMahon 867-2874
The first Tuesday of every month Pray with Faith meets. All women are invited to gather to pray for missionaries, our church, current events and personal prayer requests. All prayer is based on scripture. No one will be asked to pray aloud.
The second Tuesday of every month we hold our Lunch and Bunch. We meet in the lower fellowship hall. Our desire is for all ladies to be inspired and encouraged by special guest speakers or women who love missions. Mission opportunities and projects are discussed at these meetings. Lunch is served at 11:30 at a cost of only $3.
The third Tuesday of every month Heart to Heart Mentoring also meets in the lower fellowship hall. Christian books are discussed with the goal of spiritually growing as women of God. It is a wonderful time of fellowship with other Christian ladies. Lunch is provided at 11:30. Every September a new book will be started and slowly discussed until May. Mary Gaskins can be reached at 373-6589 if you are interested in attending. Women on Mission provide a book for all who attend.
The fourth Tuesday of every month Faith Stitchers gather in the lower fellowship hall. Bring your scissors. Tables will be set up to sew for missions, other crafts and church projects. If you have been blessed with the talent of sewing, this would be an incredible way to use your gifts for the glory of God. If you are not exactly a skillful seamstress, come anyway. You will find God will use your willingness to serve and enjoy the fellowship with these ladies. Liz Hale 382-8853 or Susan Gooch 373-6745 coordinates this ministry.
Food Ministry consists of several teams of ladies that prepare an after-funeral meal for grieving families of Faith members who have died. If you are interested in being on one of these teams contact Anna Copeland at 388-4644 or Verlee Ward at 386-1205.
Bent Tree Tutoring volunteers help underprivileged children with homework in an apartment complex associated with Hope Fellowship Church. If this is something that you feel God is calling you to help with call Sandra Williams at 758-0263.
The Clothes Closet - A group of our ladies help with clothes in various locations on the second Wednesday of every month. These ladies provide Christian counseling and help with clothing distribution to underprivileged families. First Baptist Church, Leawood Baptist and Brinkley Heights are some of the locations this ministry serves. Peggy Walker coordinates this ministry. You can reach her at 386-1634.
Prison Ministry Nina Cole is ministering to women in the Luttrell, Mason and Henning prisons. Anyone can help her by praying for her and the time she spends with these ladies. If you are interested in writing letters of encouragement to a women prisoner let Nina know. Call her at 386-2140.
